Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take insurance?
Yes. I am IN-Network with most insurance companies, including Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, Coventry, Activ, United Healthcare, Medicare. Please inquire with us for a full list.
Do I have chiropractic coverage?
Most plans now cover Chiropractic as part of their base package (including Obamacare in GA). We will verify all coverage and explain your coverage to you so that there are no surprises.
What is an adjustment?
An adjustment is an exertion on a joint complex of the body that has abnormal movement patterns or fails to function properly. Think about when you have a crick in your neck – the joints that guide the movement of your spine, are failing to move properly, which causes you to move like a robot when you try to look over your shoulder. An adjustment releases gases and tension to allow for smooth and efficient movement of the joints in your body, which ultimately allows for more pain-free and active motion of the body during your everyday activities.
How do you adjust and why do you adjust?
There are numerous adjusting, stretching, and soft tissue techniques our office utilizes to ensure the body is correctly balanced. For further explanations please go to the services/resources sections of our website. From a basic theory there are two important concepts:
-
- We know that the key to life is motion. From MD’s to PT’s to chiropractors and massage therapists, we can now all agree that motion and the maintenance and preservation of motion are imperative to our success. This is why patients start physical therapy on a torn ACL within days of surgery; and why exercise is suggested for every age group – MOTION.
- Alignment. Think about a wobble or misalignment of your car tires. Do you feel it when you drive through your neighborhood? Probably not. What happens when you get onto the highway doing 80 mph? What was just a little wobble on a neighborhood street now shakes and rattles the entire car. The body is no different. If there is a misalignment of the joint complex or a muscle imbalance, you may not feel it walking through your neighborhood, but what about when you try and run a 5k, or hit the Bootcamp/P90x/Crossfit/Krav Maga/pilates/yoga/piloga you have been waiting to try – injury. Sometimes that injury can even happen unexpectedly, such as, reaching across the couch for the remote or bending over to tie your shoe. The system has been slowing eroding until……Snap. Pain! Think of me as your body mechanic. My job is to ensure that the wear and tear of normal life (sitting at the computer, texting, driving around Atlanta, Ipading, and the other stresses of everyday life) do not break you down to the point of pain or impede your goals.
Is chiropractic safe?
Yes. There have been numerous studies on the safety and efficacy of adjusting (we would be more than happy to provide them to you at your request.)
What if I have no pain, do I still need chiropractic?
What would happen if you told your dentist that you have never had a cavity so you were going to stop brushing your teeth? Prevention and maintenance are the keys to maintaining any system. Pain is often the last thing to show up. By the time you feel the pain in a tooth, the cavity has already been there for some time. The same applies to the rest of your body. My job is to get to that dysfunction before you pull your back out picking a grape up off the floor.
Do I need to come back all the time?
Our job is to get you doing what you love to do, whatever that may be, without pain and with the best efficiency/bio-mechanics possible. If you are very active at the gym and then stop those workouts permanently, would you still retain the benefits? We do not have the philosophy that patients need to come in three times a week for the rest of their lives. But we do recommend you come in from time to time to ensure the rigors of life are not tearing down what we worked so hard to fix.
